Branding Treatment
Make it stand out.
Through vivid imagery and compelling narratives, we're reshaping the perception of cigar smoking in this recent Cigar Bodega campaign, calling attention to the brand in a fun, organic, and creative way.
Cigar Bodega - Product Launch
As a photographer, I firmly believe in the profound impact of storytelling to forge connections with audiences. When Cigar Bodega, a Markham-based brick-and-mortar cigar shop, approached me for a branding campaign, we set out to create a cinematic release for their new monthly subscription box.
From the start, we saw an opportunity to develop a concept that would resonate across generations, capturing the attention of older clientele who grew up watching black-and-white, film noir-style mystery shows, while also engaging younger audiences through a cinematic approach, impactful visuals, and an intriguing storyline. To bring this vision to life, we built a fully immersive 1950s style set using authentic antiques and carefully placed retro Easter eggs.
Set in the 1950s, Smoke Signals From Beyond The Stars follows a lone UFO investigator, obsessed, unraveling, and consumed by the unknown. Inside a dimly lit garage turned research bunker, fragments of evidence begin to blur the line between conspiracy and reality.
The Approach
Through a cinematic launch video and a suite of complementary still images, the goal was to create a story that audiences could step into. Something immersive, memorable, and emotionally resonant. These visuals were designed not just as content, but as a unified brand language, integrated across digital platforms to clearly communicate Cigar Bodega’s identity.
At the core of the campaign is a simple, relatable message: Cigar Bodega’s subscription boxes allow you to worry about one less thing, so you can focus on what matters most. Whether that’s work, passion projects, or personal rituals, the experience is designed to be seamless. Premium cigars, delivered directly to your door each month.
The campaign was built to extend beyond the screen. Select images from the shoot were transformed into framed prints, now featured throughout Cigar Bodega’s brick-and-mortar space. By carrying the same visual narrative into the physical environment, the brand experience remains consistent whether customers are engaging online or in-store. This creates continuity, depth, and authenticity across every touchpoint.
Visual Direction
Shot with a bold, cinematic approach, the film blends vintage realism with a sense of surreal tension. Deep shadows and practical lighting ground the scenes in authenticity, while warm tungsten tones are contrasted with cold, midnight light, to suggest something just beyond reach.
Thick, atmospheric smoke moves throughout the frame, serving not only as texture, but as a narrative device, while slow, deliberate camera movement builds unease and anticipation. The garage itself becomes a character: cluttered, immersive, and alive with detail.
Tone & Atmosphere
Paranoid. Obsessive. Uncertain.
Drawing inspiration from 1950s sci-fi paranoia and analog-era storytelling, the piece explores isolation, the pull of unanswered questions, and the fine line between belief and proof. What begins as curiosity gradually evolves into obsession, creating a tension that carries through every frame.
Brand Integration
Cigar Bodega is not simply placed within the story…it’s embedded in it.
The ritual of the cigar becomes a constant presence and symbol of comfort: slow, intentional, and reflective. It accompanies long nights of investigation and quiet moments of realization. Always within reach, and never an interruption.
The subscription model becomes part of the narrative itself. Our protagonist is free to dive deeper into his work, undistracted and fully immersed, because the essentials arrive without effort. There’s no need to leave, no break in the process. Just a seamless continuation of his routine.
